How to Choose a Carry Gun

But the most important question we can face is about training. How do we use this weapon for best effect? How to use it inside our home when loved ones are a thin wall away? How do we use it if we’re caught up in a armed robbery? What if we’re car-jacked. Home invasions are on the rise, does everyone in your home know their role and are they well trained to perform that role?

WHAT HANDGUN FOR PRACTICE AND DEFENSIVE PURPOSES?

I think I mentioned that 25 years ago a concealed carry permit was impossible to get in most states.. but now all but a couple make it easy. The end result of this is a very competitive gun market with many more manufacturers with a plethora of styles, types, designs, and price points unique to the concealed carry market has ensued. Or in other words a cra&load of choices. Good choices for the most part. But from these choices there are only 2-3 I’d personally bother with.

A CCW Instructor Chooses A New Backup Carry Gun, Part One.

Weighing in at only 19 ounces with an 18-degree grip the weapon points naturally and the 5.3” sight radius feels like it belongs to a much larger handgun. Coupled with the excellent sights, long sight radius, comfortable grip with extension, and smooth trigger pull I expect a very enjoyable backup firearm. And in 9mm! S&W also covers all of their products with a lifetime service policy which is par with other American and some import manufacturers.

Should You Modify Your CCW Handgun?

Don’t give the prosecutor ANY ammunition to use against you. Go absolutely wild and have great fun with your competition or target pieces, but your carry gun save for a nice set of sights and a grip that fits, and proper maintenance, should be as far as it goes. What will you decide?

Would you like to sponsor your own CCW class?

Many people find their own home more comfortable and/or for medical or other reasons would rather have four hour classes instead of eight hour classes.  Champaign CCW enjoys teaching small groups of family members, family & friends, and any small group you can put together and where you have room to meet for the required hours and a place on your property to accomplish the range portion of the class.  Call us at 217-298-1452 or email us and we'll talk about how to set up your own class.
