It's no secret I'm fond of the Smith & Wesson M&P line of handguns. From a gunsmith point of view I like them better than my beloved Glocks. My hand wraps around an M&P grip like a Cobra around it's prey.

Fitting & Installing Rear Pistol Sights

There are many reasons you might want to install a rear sight on your pistol, in my case I’d previously removed the factory three dot tritium night sights that came standard on my M&P Shield 9mm and in their place installed a Trijicon HD Orange front sight and a custom Burwell read serrated plain (no dots) rear sight in a Hackethorn configuration.

The Black Rifle Project is something we're doing to chronicle the build of a pair of AR-15 rifles of the type and quality you'd wait for EDC (where you can do these things) or if the world as we knew it ended and you needed a personal rifle which was above all reliable, stout, accurate, and fast handling. A rifle any member of your family could depend their life on. It must be handy, light to carry, of a reliable and readily available cartridge, and above all obtainable for everyone.

Semantics Takes On Clarification, IMPORTANT READ FOR PAST STUDENTS

The statute in question reads “the gun must be on or about” the permit holder. I’ve always taken that to mean “attached” to the license holder in some way. By holster, waistband (bad idea), pocket, somewhere where it’s strictly under the control of the licensee. For a lady if in a purse, then the purse must not be in the seat beside you, but strapped around your body as if you were carrying it.

But can we get say.. 90% of the function, quality, and reliability, from a lesser optic. After all, all options should be considered in making our dollars stretch to equip us in the best possible way. Perhaps. And this is what we’re going to learn.

Ebay’s Anti-Gun Policies

All that effect to ban equipment, and zero talk about things like mental illness not being reported to the existing background check system which is the ONLY thing that might have prevented the last 4-5 school shootings. It’s about people folks, not equipment. Guns don’t kill people… people kill people. Make our population mentally well or if not well, restricted, and now we have a workable solution. But no, they’d rather go after COSMETIC features of one certain type of weapon. Why? Because they believe it will get them more votes.

Stippling Grip Surfaces

Times have changed and so have peoples tastes. Much fewer 1911 smiths are out there and fewer of them have the 3-4 year backlog they once did. Modern defence guns now have polymer frames and most grip surfaces are injection molded.

Inexpensive Way To Ensure Your Future Right To A Black Rifle

So how to insure your right/access to your very own AR-15 well into the future? Easy, buy a lower. The lower is the small part of the rifle that houses the trigger control group or fire control group and this is the only part of the rifle with the serial number on it. Get a good one that's mil-spec, put it in your safe, and at a later time, funds allowing, you order the rest of the parts.

Earliest Shooting Memories..

Now think about this. A kid who took their rifle into a school building with the full permission from the dean so he could visit the nearby city rifle range after school. And this same kid discovers what would today be called “an arsenal of assault weapons” PLUS AMMO (about 5000 rounds of .22 shorts). Imagine the outcry,

Tactical Training Vs. Concealed Carry Training, The ABC’s

I see some instructors with NRA credentials as long as an grizzled sergeants service stripes, but what exactly does that tell you? Mostly that they scraped together enough time and money to take NRA courses. Now don’t get angry, I’m an NRA instructor. But only for the basic courses that support either my licensing or my other classes. Will I get more NRA qualifications? Probably, maybe, dunno. The more I learn about their courses the more outdated and a waste of time and money they ‘can be’ for certain goals. Like concealed carry training, which is my professional focus.

Would you like to sponsor your own CCW class?

Many people find their own home more comfortable and/or for medical or other reasons would rather have four hour classes instead of eight hour classes.  Champaign CCW enjoys teaching small groups of family members, family & friends, and any small group you can put together and where you have room to meet for the required hours and a place on your property to accomplish the range portion of the class.  Call us at 217-298-1452 or email us and we'll talk about how to set up your own class.
